That will change tomorrow. First of all let's get the facts straight.
The virus is called the DNS Changer. Basically when a computer accesses the internet it's requests for information are routed through DNS Servers (DNS stands for Domain Name System). In computer code www.jandecomputers.com is actually 952.467.12.1 (I made the numbers up but you get the idea). The DNS Server translates it for you so that you don't have to remember numbers to visit your favorite computer site you just type the name.
The DNS CHanger virus gets onto any device that access a network or internet (computer, tablet, laptop, smartphone, printer etc.) and changes the DNS settings. This points your computer to a wrong location so when you type in a web address you get sent somewhere else. Typically that somewhere else is dangerous and is trying to steal your information.
In this case the FBI shut down the comptuers that were controlling this virus some time ago. (Click here for the information) So anyone infected wasn't in any danger. Tomorrow the FBI is shutting down the computers that were involved with the fake DNS (not your computers the criminals' computers). Anyone still infected with the virus will no longer be able to get online once this happens.
Easy way to check if you are infected - click here. Make sure you check this from home. It is the best place to do it as your router can also be infected. If the test comes back positive call me - or if you suddenly don't have internet tomorrow - call me! The fix is pretty easy, but it is important it is done.
